James Ashley and Josephine Webber, Hazel's parents, moved from Marshfield, Oregon (later became Coos Bay) to Brookfield Washington where Hazel was born. Brookfield was est. in 1873 by J.G. Megler who started a Salmon Cannery there. The cannery burned July 17th, 1931 and was not rebuilt. By the late 1930's everybody in town left and the town disappeared, no longer exists.
Now here is my ripple... If James Ashley and Josephine Webber, Hazels parents. If either James or Josephine, or both died in Brookfield before 1931 were they buried there? Or if they were still living when everyone started leaving Brookfield where did they go? Now when my Grandmother Hazel married my Grandfather they lived in Wauna, Oregon. Wauna is across the Columbia river from where Brookfield was. DId James and Josephine also end up moving to the Wauna area??
