He was twice married. First married Sarah Louise "Sally" Wierengo (daughter of Peter John Wierengo and Janke Jennie R. Hyma) on 5 Aug 1933 in Rockford, Kent, Michigan, USA.
He remarried on 2 May 1946 Lucille Anna Endres in Freeport, Barry, Michigan, USA and they moved to a home in the country outside Howard City, Michigan. They had several businesses – canoe rentals, buying/selling/developing real estate and growing Christmas trees.
