Biography

John was born in 1861. He is the son of James Ashley and Margaret (Jernigan) Ashley and he is listed with them on the 1870 Census in his hometown of Tippah, Mississippi. ^[1] On March 12th of 1883 ^[2] he married, Martha "Mattie" (Thomas) Ashley Wagley (1866–1950). ^[3] It is believed that this couple had at least six children (listed below and each are listed on his find a grave profile); although it should be noted that he is listed in the death record for another son that is not listed on find a grave: John Ashley 1906-1949. ^[4]
