Biography

William Wood Ashley and his twin sister Maude Muller were born in 14 Nov 1881 in Leslie, Searcy, Arkansas. He was the son of Stephen Leon Ashley and Mary Lucinda Griffin.[1]


1900 census Steven L Ashley (age 45) and his wife Lucinda are living in Van Alstyne, Grayson, Texas with their children: Maude M (age 19) and William W (age 19). Stephen and Lucinda have been married 27 years. Lucinda has had 4 children and all are living. All were born in Arkansas. Stephen is a farm laborer. William is a day laborer.[2]

William Wood Ashley married Nettie Baum on 10 May 1908 in Grayson County, Texas.[3]

1930 census William Wood Ashley (age 48) and his wife Nettie L (age 40) are living in Pueblo, Colorado with William's mother Mary L (widow, age 80) and William's niece Mattie Leon Ashley (age 29). They rent their home for $25 per month. Nettie was born in Texas. All the others were born in Arkansas. William is a watchmaker in a jewelry store. Nettie is a music teacher. Mattie is a bookkeeper. All can read/write.[4]

He passed away at age 67 on 2 May 1949 in Pueblo, Colorado and is buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Pueblo, Colorado.[5]
