I want to thank, so very much, Gary Carson and JoAnn Cummings forall their valuable input and family info that they have contributed tothe Robert Ashley family files.
Jordan Ashley Sr. was in the Rev. War, being drafted in 1779 for a tourof 3
months duty under Capt. William Nettles in Col Stewart's 5th Regiment SC.
Rev. War records indicate that Jordan was about age 44 at that time.
After two weeks of service, Jordan became ill and was sent home. His
eldest son Robert was sent to finish his term. There are voluminous Rev.
War pension records for Robert and his widow Sarah. Gilmore indicates
that the DAR # for Jordan Ashley is 635-384.

On the Statement of the Military History of Robert Ashley (soldier ofthe Revolutionary War) it says:
Dates of Enlistment or Appointment: 1780
Length of Service: about 2 years
Rank: Private
Captain: Maiterland
Notes written in:
He was captured at Battle of Lindleys Mill, taken to Charleston &confined in prison ship for much time before making his escape
Battles: Lindley's Mill (Sept 13, 1781)
Residence: Orange Co NC
Date of application: widow Nov 7, 1851
Residence at date of application: Granville Co NC, 1857 Orange Co NC
Age at date of application: She was seventy (six or seven..hard to read)of age
Remarks: soldier married Nov 1798 Sarah Rue, died Sept 17, 1829
