Anthony Ashley-Cooper, 7th Earl of Shaftesbury was born on 28 April 1801. He was the son of Cropley Ashley-Cooper, 6th Earl of Shaftesbury and Lady Anne Spencer. He married Lady Emily Caroline Catherine Frances Cowper, daughter of Peter Leopold Louis Francis Nassau Cowper, 5th Earl Cowper and his wife, Emily Mary Lamb, on 10 June 1830. He died on 1 October 1885 at age 84.
