Anthony Ashley-Cooper, 10th Earl of Shaftesbury was born on 22 May 1938. He was the son of Major Anthony Ashley-Cooper, Lord Ashley and Fran├žoise Soulier.


He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England. He was educated at Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England.

Military Service

He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the 10th Royal Hussars.


He succeeded as the 10th Baron Cooper of Pawlett, co. Somerset [E., 1672] on 25 March 1961. He succeeded as the 10th Earl of Shaftesbury [E., 1672] on 25 March 1961. He succeeded as the 11th Baronet Cooper, of Rockbourne, Hampshire [E., 1622] on 25 March 1961. He succeeded as the 10th Baron Ashley of Wimborne St. Giles, co. Dorset [E., 1661] on 25 March 1961. He was director of PKL Group in 1989.


He married, firstly, Bianca Maria de Paolis, daughter of Gino de Paolis, on 21 July 1966. He and Bianca Maria de Paolis were divorced in 1976. He married, secondly, Christina Eva Montan, daughter of Nils Montan, on 15 December 1976. He married, thirdly, Jamila Ben M'Barek on 5 November 2002.


He died in November 2004 at age 66 at Cannes, France, probably beaten to death by his third wife's brother.
