Phillip was born about 1789. He was the son of James Ashlock and Charlotte Key, proven by his affidavit in his father's Revolutionary War pension file. Phillip appeared in the 1850 census in Sumner, Tennessee. This record indicated his birth was in North Carolina, however his father was residing in South Carolina in 1790. Phillip likely passed away in Sumner County, Tennessee.
