Biography

Christopher was born about 1500. Christopher Ashlock left a will proved 1551 in which he mentions his wife Alice, brother Thomas, brother John (priest), son Thomas, Thomas Ashlock of Deverell, sister Joan, and unnamed daughters among many others. See also under daughter, Mary.

"I desire to be buried in the parish church of Heytisbury. I bequeath to the parish church 20s -- to my wife Alice £100 and such household stuff and plate as she brought with her, if it be anything ruinished or worn, it shall be made good at the discretion of my brother Thomas Asshelocke and John Asshelocke priest. She shall dwell in the house with my son Thomas as long as she will and shall during that time have two broad Rooms -- to William Wornell and Thomas Adlame 20s each -- to Thomas Dew 40s. -- to Thomas Asshelock of Deverell £10 he oweth me --to his son, my godson ^[1] 40s. -- to each of my godsons 4d. -- to John Nicholas 20d. Small money bequests to Thomas Clifforde and his mother. Nicholas Hill, Thomas Moryshe, Giles the shepherd, John Strange, Agnes Wely, Robert Hill John Toskar, To Green that dwelleth at Coles, Nicholas Stokes, Edward Dew, John Dew, Christopher Dew, William Bendell and William Orchard, John Mardy, John Irish, Hugh Addams, Thomas Adams, Christopher Hill, to -- Clifford, John Jones, Thomas Knight of Norton and my sister Joan. I give to each of my daughters what my said two brothers shall deem fitting. Executor -- my son Thomas. Witnesses Thomas Ashlocke and John Ashlocke, priest, my brothers, John Fraude, John Strange, Sir Symonde Enterden, William Coke and William Lamberthe of Knowle. Overseers -- my said brothers Thomas and John, parson of Bekynton. By me Christofer Asshelocke -- proved 28 Jany. 1551/ and by executor named."^[2]
