In early 1873 John married Emily Ashman in Ipswich, Suffolk.[2]
In the 1881 census Emily (aged 33) is recorded as living at home (3 Prospect Road, Ipswich, Suffolk with her husband John (aged 33), son Charles A (aged 7) and daughters Emma (aged 5), Maud (aged 3) and Emily (aged 0)[3]
Emily passed away late 1886/early 1887.[4]
