Sir Richard Assheton married 1st, 1502 (settlement 29 August), Anne, daughter of Sir Thomas Strickland, kt. of Lonsdale (Cumbld) and 2nd, 19 October 1541, Anne, daughter of Sir James Pickering and widow of Sir Robert Bellingham of Burneside.

Research Notes

Some genealogies insert here an extra generation, of Richard Assheton, who married Anne/Margaret, daughter of Sir Robert Fouleshurst of Crewe (Cheshire), but the dates do not really permit this. I can find no evidence of such a marriage, although a deed of 1502 in which Fouleshurst is given power to appoint feoffees for the marriage settlement of Sir Richard's son, Richard and his wife Anne Strickland implies some relationship between the two families.^[1]

Old Notes

Sir Richard Assheton was knighted after the Battle of Flodden in 1513, where he took the Scottish standard and made Sir John Foreman, the Scot's monarch's serjeant-porter, prisoner. He m. Anne Foulshurst of Crew.
