Biography

This profile is part of the St Helens, Lancashire One Place Study.

Joseph Ashton was christened on 4 Mar 1821 at the church of St Mary the Virgin in Prescot, Lancashire. He was the son of James and Elizabeth Ashton. His father's occupation was recorded as collier, and the family's address as Whiston.

By June 6th 1841, the family were living in Springfield Row, Eccleston. James was a coal miner. Elizabeth's father James Tatlock was living with them, but he was of independent means, so they weren't having to support him financially. Elizabeth Harrison, of similar age to James Tatlock, and also of independent means, was also living with them.
