I wish to add a source for the marriage of Christopher Ashton and Lady Catherine Gordon, but am unable to edit. Here is the reference:

Mosley, Charles, editor. Burke's Peerage, Baronetage & Knightage, 107th edition, 3 volumes. Wilmington, Delaware, U.S.A.: Burke's Peerage (Genealogical Books) Ltd, 2003. https://www.thepeerage.com/p24566.htm#i245653

In http://www.thericardian.online/downloads/Ricardian/12-158/03.pdf the author Wendy E. A. Moorhen proposes a child named Christopher Ashton died in 1548, a relative of the profile. The author references J. Stevenson, et al, Calendar of Slate Papers Foreign Series of the Reign of Elizabeth, 23 vols, London 1863—1950, vol. 4, p 170 that Christopher Ashton of the profile died about 1565. "Tradition has it that he died and was buried with his second wife, Lady Katherine Gordon, at Fyfield but the date of his death is unknown although he was dead by 1565. His son Christopher, who also appears to have returned to England, survived him: on 23 June 1568 he was granted a malt mill in Ewelme but then disappears from the records)"

Reference to Wroe probably would assist.

Elizabeth Gordon was married to Warbeck (pretender to the Crown). Edward 7th wisely dispatched of Warbeck et alia at the end of the 15th Century. Christopher Ashton born 1493 probably married Elizabeth Gordon 1518+. Children Christopher and Elizabeth (born 1525)

Elizabeth Gordon died 1537 and Christopher Ashton 1548 (both at Fyfield Berkshire)

Children: Elizabeth married Henry Dudley of Fyfield Berkshire Christopher Ashton defendant in the Dudley Trial 1558

It is reasonable to accept Christopher Ashton 1493/1548 and a son Christopher recorded at the Dudley trial 1558

How did he die eight years before the conspiracy that he was involved in and stood trial for? I suspect there are three generations of Christophers that are being squished into one. 1. Christopher I married Lady Gordon at 1516 and died in 1548, probably born about 1470. 2. Chris I had two children of a previous wife, so Chris II and someone. Chris II could be Chris Sr born 1493 and tried for treason in 1556. 3. Chris II aka Chris Sr had a son Chris Jr or Chris III who was on trial with Chris Sr for treason of Dudley's conspiracy in 1556. He would likely be born about 1513-1530.
