George Gilbert Ashwell is widely referred to as Gil.
Dr. Gil Ashwell was a biochemist and member of the National Academy of Sciences. There is a nice biography at the National Academy site.[1] He also has a WikiPedia page.[2]
George appears at 13 in the 1930 census[3] and again at 23 in 1940, listed by middle name Gilbert.[4]
Gil met his future wife Edna Fleischmann when they were both travelling to Europe to study. They married in 1942.[5][6]
He died in 2014.[7] He was survived by two children and two grandchildren.[5]
