Biography

William Ashworth was born on 13 May 1853 in Royton, Lancashire, England, son of Betsy (Greenhalgh) Ashworth and John Ashworth.

William was aged 10 when he emigrated to Australia with his mother Betsy Ashworth (age 29, widow) and his brother Samuel (8) on the Lightning, arriving in Victoria in August 1865. [1]

He married Sarah Jane Mcermott on 25 March 1875 in Geelong, Victoria.[citation needed] Their children were:[citation needed]

Sarah died in 1916.[2]

William died on 5 Apr 1924 in Colac, Victoria.[3]
