Biography

Henry was born 12 Mar 1812 in Putnam, Georgia, United States.[1] His parents were Josiah Askew and Nancy Jernigan.[2]

At 19, Henry enlisted in the Black Hawk War in Varners Company of the Georgia Infantry.[2][3][1]

Henry married twice.

His first marriage was to Eleanor H. Maddox on 21 Dec 1837 in Henry, Georgia, United States.[4][2] They had 6 children:[2]

  1. James, born 1841 in Georgia, died abt 1864 Civil War Battle of Atlanta
  2. William Henry, born 14 Jan 1847 in Henry Georgia, died 14 Nov 1910 in Baileyville Milam Texas and buried in Power's Chapel Cemetery in Milam, married Mary Elizabeth Cargill
  3. Joseph, born 28 Aug 1848 in Georgia, died 1903 in Texas and buried at Power's Chapel Cemetery, never married
  4. Uriah Thomas, born 20 Jun 1850 in Georgia, died 30 Apr 1883, never married
  5. Martha A. E., born 11 Jan 1853 in Alabama, died 1 Jun 1857 in Macon, Alabama and buried in Warriorstand Cemetery

His second marriage was to Eleanor's sister Martha Frances Maddox Elliott, widow of John Joseph Elliott, on 16 Aug 1864 in Henry County, Georgia.[5][2] They had 5 children:[2]
