William Askeron was born in about March 1688/9 in Walden Stubbs, Yorkshire, England, and baptized in March 1688/9 at nearby Womersley, St Martin in Yorkshire. His father was Richard Askeron.[1]
He was living in nearby Credling Stubs when he married Dinah Cooke in Escrick, Yorkshire (East Riding), England, on 10 October 1712. [2]
In April 1714 and until at least June 1717, he resided again in Walden Stubbs, Yorkshire, and was employed as a butcher.[3][4][5]
By 1719, he resided in nearby Haywood, Yorshire.[6] He baptized his last known child at St. Peter's Church in Burghwallis on January 1721/2.[7]
William appears to have died shortly before his youngest child was born. The parish register is difficult to read, but appears to reflect that "Wm Askeron of Haywood" was buried at Womersley St. Martin on 20 December 1721, just a month before Mary was baptized there.[8]
Children
Children of William and, most likely Dinah Cooke, include:
There are many different spellings of the last name for this family in the contemporaneous records. His father is identified as Richard "Askorne" of Stubs Walden in the baptism records for his older siblings, then Richard "Askeron" of Stubs Walden in his baptism record, then Richard "Askern" in the baptism and burial record of his younger brother Samuel. The LNAB for this profile is based on the spelling in his baptism record. During his life, he appears as at least William Askeron, Askren, Askorn & Askran.
Move from Walden Stubbs to Haywood
This profile assumes the William Askren, butcher, of Walden Stubbs who baptized his sons John, Richard and William at St. Martin, Womersley in 1714-1717 is the same William Askern of Haywood who baptized his children Thomas and Mary at St. Peter's Church, Burghwallis, in 1719-21. The villages of Walden Stubbs and Haywood are just a few miles from each other and the pattern of births suggest this is probably a single family which moved between the villages in about 1718.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with William by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with William:
I have reattached Dinah (now with LNAB Cooke) as his wife based on the marriage record which Ginny Fell identified in her comment to the profile of son Thomas (Askern) Askren. I have cited to the FamilySearch index of the record - the image is available only at an FHL/FHC, but I will substitute a citation and copy of the image as soon when I make the next trip to my local FHC.
This appears to be the same William -- he is identified as living in Credling Stubbs in the marriage record, and then in nearby Walding Stubbs when he starts baptizing his children nineteen months after this marriage. If anyone has any concerns about these changes, please weigh in.
