Orten was born on May 14, 1907 on his father's homestead at NW12 T41 R25 W2 in the RM of Hoodoo, Saskatchewan. His parents were Adoph Asleson and May Reed.

He married Nellie Scales. He had a son named Robert Asleson.

He passed away in 1976 in Burnaby, British Columbia.
