Born in Andover on 16 February 1656/57,[1][2] John was a selectman in Andover in 1692 and a representative in 1701. He married Mary (Osgood) Aslett in Andover on July 6, 1680.[3]
He signed his will on 17 Jun 1728; it was proved on 1 Jul 1728.[4] He mentioned, among others, his wife Mary; his sisters Mary Frye and Sarah Cole; John Johnson, Sr., the son of his deceased sister Rebecca; Timothy Johnson, Sr., the son of his deceased sister Rebecca; Samuel Johnson "who now lives in Pennsylvania," the son of his deceased sister Rebecca; Rebecca, Mary and Mercy, daughters of Rebecca; his deceased sister Hannah Brown.[5][6]
Note on Name spelling
There are multiple spellings of John and family's name in records of the time. Town records, particularly birth and death records of the children list the name as "Aslett". However, the probate document lists "Aslebee", "Asselbee" and "Wasselbee" as possible spellings. The Andover town map recreation lists the name as "Aslebee".[7] Since he appears to have had no surviving sons or other male relatives, the name died out before a settled spelling could occur. DeFoe-76: I've removed the alternate last name to clear a naming error.
