William Asling was born in 1863 in Kensington, Middlesex. He is the son of Richard Asling and Ann Rooke. ^[1]

William married Mary Haverd on 3rd July 1887, She was 26-years-old when they married at All Saints, West Ham. ^[3]

In 1871, William was living with his parents and three siblings in Kensington, Middlesex. William's father was a labourer. ^{[4] [5]}

In 1891. William and his wife were residing in Waddington Road, West Ham. William was employed as an engine fitter's labourer. He was 27-years-old. The couple had three daughters. William's sister-in-law, Lizzie Haverd was staying with them and listed as a boarder. ^[6]

In 1901, William was 37. He and his wife were living in West Ham with their seven children. His wife was noted as "Annie" - her middle name. ^[7]

In 1911, William and Mary were living in Stratford. William was 48 and employed as a locomotive fitter's assistant. In the household were five children. ^[8]

Mother's maiden surname was listed as Rugg with GRO, but this is a typo or inability to read the chicken scratch on the registration. Sibling, Hannah, birth registration has another name Rooke.
