Christian Asmus is a Volga German.
Christian Asmus has German Roots.
Family #4 in the first Appendix of the 1798 Grimm census.
Family #108 in the 1834 Grimm census.
The family does not appear in the 1775 Grimm census. According to a note in the 1798 census, his parents were originally from Holstein, and in all likelihood Christian, born in 1766, was born in Holstein or enroute to the Volga region of Russia.
In 1798, Christian Asmus and his family lived with his mother, who by that year was widowed. The intention was for the family's land and mill to pass down to Christian upon his mother's death. He married Margaretha Rutz around 1788. She was born in Dönhof, two years younger than he was The couple had five children.
Georg Heinrich born in 1790
Heinrich Philip, born in 1792
Eva Katharina, born in 1793
Maria Elisabetha, born in 1795
Johann Friedrich, born in 1798
Christian Asmus died in 1819. By the time the 1834 census was taken, his second wife, Katharina, was still living in the same house with son Johann Wilhelm, his wife Katharina, and their two children in 1834. Christian's mother, Anna Katharina Margaretha is not mentioned and presumably passed away, probably between 1798 and 1820. It is unlikely she lived into her 90s, and she probably died closer to 1810 than 1820.
