Robert was baptised in Jan 1622/23. He is the son of George Aspden and Joan (Bury) Aspden (abt.1595-) [1]
No marriage and no children have been found. (There seems to be a long gap in parish registers 1637-51). However, Robert Aspden (abt.1650-abt.1724) of Lower Darwen is assumed to be his son.
Robert's occupation appears to be that of a farmer who owned his own land. He lived in Lower Darwen.
With respect to his property, it may be the same referred to in 1757 when Richard Haworth sold his estate including the 12 acre Aspden farm and messuage in Lower Darwen. Ditto the sale by Christopher Baron in 1766.
Robert Aspden, yeoman of Lower Darwen, passed away in Oct 1699. [2]
Robert left a will which was proved in late 1699. Only the inventory seems to have survived. It includes such things as: a mare & foal; Cattle; Corne (any sort of grain but doesn't include Indian corn); hay; beds, chairs, general household goods; Brass & pewter; Carts & wheels & plow with other husbandry wares; 3 little ladders; the deceased’s apparel; 4 sacks & pack saddles. Total value 37 pounds 16 shillings 6 pence.[3]
