A WIDOW OF 19.
HER SECOND VENTURE.
Also Unfortunate.
Unfortunate matrimonial experiences seem to have fallen to the lot of Catherine Louise Asselin, according to her story told to Mr. Justice Owen in the Divorce Court. She was a widow before she reached her nineteenth birthday, and at that age apparently made another unlucky dip into the matrimonial lucky-bag. Her second husband deserted her, she said.
She met Sydney Lewis Asselin, of the A.I.F., while he was in London, and married him in January, 1918. They came out to Sydney together in May, 1920, and the young wife went to stay with her sister as Newtown, while hubby went to see his parents at Emmaville, daying he would send for his wife.
"He didn't send for me," said Mrs. Asselin, a neatly-dressed, goodlooking littte woman with a pleasant smile. "So as the mountain would not come to Mahomet, Mahomet had to go to the mountain. I joined him at Tungsten, where for a while we lived with his parents. But I was not happy there, as he used to drink a lot, and did not support me."
Mrs. Asselin said her husband did not do any regular work, but used to go prospecting. She went back to her sister's.
HIS NEW SUIT.
"When I asked him to send me some money," said Mrs. Asselin, "he said he could not, as I was costing him too much and he had to buy a new suit." She added that she had been working for her own support, and declared that her husband had practically never supported her since their marriage. She asked for a divorce on the ground of desertion.
His Honor granted her a decree nisi. "Thank you, your Honor," said the petitioner, with emotion.
Mr. Teece (of Messrs. Teece and Co.) appeared for the petitioner.— "Evening News."
