The death occurred at his residence, Anson-street, Orange, this morning, of Mr. Herbert Astill, at the age of 49 years. The cause of death was consumption, with which malady Mr. Astill had been afflicted during the past three years. During the past few days his condition was regarded as extremely critical, and it was not expected that he would survive what proved to be the culminating attack of the great white plague. The sorrow of the deceased's family at the sad loss which has befallen them is tempered with the reflection that the spirit has been released from a long suffering tenement. Mr. Astill bore his protracted illness bravely, and with cheerful fortitude. Up till the messenger of death came he exhibited a positive resignation and trust in the divine will, and there was no suggestion of rebellion. He never murmured nor complained. The circumstances are peculiarly sad and distressing. A wife and eight children deplore the irreparable loss of the husband and father. The deceased was twice married. The youngest child is but eight months old. The deep sympathy of the people of Orange will go out to the bereaved family in the peculiarly distressing circumstances surrounding the sad event. The funeral will take place to-morrow (Friday), the cortege leaving the deceased's late residence, Anson-street, at 3 o'clock, for the Church of England section of the Orange Cemetery. Mr. F. Ford has charge of the mortuary arrangements. [6]
