Biography
William Benton Astle was born 11 August 1900 in Stark, New Hampshire to Austin Weeks Astle (abt 1863 – 1931) and Ida Mae Benton. Owen Harold was his older brother. Edwin Astle and Sarah Nutting were his grandparents. Jacob Cealand Astle and Edwin George Astle were first cousins to William and Owen.
In 1910 Austin and Ida were enumerated in Stark with 5 children, William being the youngest. Austin and his parents were reported as born in Canada.
When William registered for the draft he was a papermaker at Brown Co. in Cascade, NH. By 1930 William, who was single and a laborer, was living in Azusa, Los Angeles County, California with his widowed father who was a pruner of citrus groves.
In 1940 William was a rancher living in Monrovia, Los Angeles County with his wife Kathleen.
William died 25 July 1996 in Los Angeles. His last residence was recorded as Pima, Arizona.
