Jacob Astley, 1st Baron Astley of Reading was the 2nd son of Isaac Astley, of Hill Morton, co. Warwick, and Melton Constable, co. Norfolk (by his wife Mary Waldegrave, dau. of Edward Waldegrave, of Borley, co. Essex), only surv. son of John Astley, of Hill Morton, co. Warwick, and Melton Constable, co. Norfolk (by his wife Frances Cheyney, dau. and hrss. of John Cheyney, of Sittingbourne, co. Kent), descended from Ralph de Astley, younger half-brother of Andrew [de Astley], 1st Baron Astley.
