Biography

William Aston was born in the Colony of Victoria (1851-1900)

William Baynham Aston was born in Carisbrook in 1859. He was the third child and eldest son of Edward Aston, a bootmaker, and Ann Howell. [1]

On leaving home he was initially employed at the Mail Service in Melbourne.

He married Emma Harris in 1883.

MARRIAGES. ASTON— HARRIS.— On the 11th September, at Wesleyan Church, Emerald Hill, by Rev. E. L. Watkin, William Baynham, son of Edward Aston, Carisbrook, to Emma Amelia, daughter of John Harris, St. Kilda. [2]

They settled in Elsternwick.

His occupation is recorded as a grocer.

William and Emma had seven children: Ethel Amelia (1885); Ernest Edward (1886); Leslie Baynham (1888); Arthur John (1891); Ruby Olive (1896); Doris Edith (1899); and Elsie Maud (1905). Ethel died in infancy and Arthur was killed in action in Messines in 1917.

William passed away at his home in Elsternwick on 8 June 1923, aged 63.

ASTON. — On the 8th June, at his residence, "Cooee," Gisborne-street, Elsternwick, William Baynham, the beloved husband of Emma Amelia Aston, and loving father of Ethel (deceased), Ernest, Leslie, Arthur (deceased), Ruby (Mrs. Hosken), Doris and Elsie Aston, loving grandfather of Thelma, Beryl and Peggy, aged 63 years. [3]
ASTON - On the 8th June, at Elsternwick, William Baynham, eldest son of the late Edward and Ann Aston, Carisbrook, and brother of Amelia (Mrs J. A. Ault, Durham Ox), Sophia (Mrs. Linton, Carisbrook), Stephen (Moonee Ponds) and Tilly (Windsor) and the late Lizzie (Mrs. Crocker.) [4]
ASTON.—On the 8th June William Baynham Aston, son of the late Edward and Ann Aston of Carisbrook and brother of Amelia (Mrs J A Ault, Durham Ox) , Sophia (Mrs J Linton Carisbrook), Stephen (Moonee Ponds) Tilly (Windsor), and the late Cissy (Mrs Crocker). [5]
