Biography

Ann Athea was born on 3 Sep 1833 in Ripon, Yorkshire, England to George Athea and Mary (Handley) Athea. She was baptised on 18 May 1834 at St Peter, Leeds, Yorkshire.

In 1841 Ann Athen [Athea] (age 8) lived at Mason Street in Leeds, Yorkshire with her father George (30), mother Mary (35), and three brothers: William (6), John (4), and George (1).^[1]

Ann's mother Mary Athea passed away in 1849, and her father George Athea married Sarah Parker in 1850.

In 1851 Ann Athea (age 17, Working at Flax Mill) lived at Myrtle Street in Leeds with her father George (38, Master Cordwainer), stepmother Sarah (28), and four siblings: William (16, Cordwainer), John (14, Cordwainer), George (12, Scholar), and Frances (6, At Home).^[2]

Ann Athea married George Brearley in 1854. The marriage was registered in Leeds in the second quarter of the year.^[3]

Ann and George had four children:

1. Mary Ann Brearley (1856-)
2. William Rayner Brearley (1858-1860)
3. Samuel Brearley (1860-)
4. George Brearley (1862-)

In 1861 Ann Brearley (age 27) lived in Leeds with her husband George (28, Cordwainer), daughter Mary Ann (5, Scholar), and son Samuel (1).^[4]

Ann's husband George Brearley passed away in 1864.

Ann may have also passed away before the 1871 census - on that census her sons Samuel and George were both living at boarding schools, and her daughter Mary Ann was working as a domestic servant.
