Biography

"John and Hannah Atherton Whitney. They were married on this date in 1785 in Harvard, Massachusetts by REVEREND EBENEZER GROSVENOR. I don't have birth dates for either so will give a brief history for both. Hannah was baptized 25 NOV 1764 in Harvard. She was the 3rd of 4 daughters and 6th of 8 children of Joseph and Sarah Hutchins Atherton. Her father was a private during the Revolutionary War and was present at the Lexington Alarm ("shot heard round the world") John was baptized 30 Mar 1760 in Harvard. He was the 1st or 2nd of 6 sons and 1 of 7 children born to Isaiah and Persis Randall Whitney. John's father was also at the Lexington Alarm. John would later serve in the Revolutionary War as a private. Hannah and John had 4 children, two who died as infants. Tho my great-great-grandmother Sarah (born 1787) had a brother who reached adulthood, he seems to not have had any children so all descendants are thru Sarah. Hannah died at age 28 in Harvard about 1793. John who had been a Harvard merchant after the war rejoined the army after Hannah's death and reached the rank of Captain before dying in Milledgeville, Baldwin, Georgia in 1800. I don't know who took care of Sarah and her brother after their mother died. A fun fact about Hannah is that she was descended from King Edward III of England" by Mary Lay-Stephenson

Hannah was born about 1764. Hannah Atherton ... She passed away about 1793. [1]
