Roger is known from the baptisms of his children in Finningley in the 1560s and 1570s.[1]
In the mid 1500s the parish records of Finningley in Nottinghamshire (Yorkshire) show that there were only two families of the surname Atkin living in the village. It is likely that the heads of these two families Thomas and Roger were brothers, or perhaps close cousins.
A patriarchal Atkin has been added to link these two arms of the Atkin family.
No documents have been found to prove this and, given the timeframe, it is unlikely that any ever will.
