When Alice Marie Atkins was born on 15 December 1915, in Tennessee, United States, her father, Joseph William Atkins, was 22 and her mother, Sarah Loretta Roberts, was 19.[1]

In 1920 and 1930, Alice lived in Vonore, Monroe, Tennessee, United States with her parents and siblings.[2][3]

She married William Lex Burgess on 24 June 1939, in Monroe, Tennessee, United States.[4]

They had four (4) children together.

She lived in Rural, Morgan, Tennessee and Beaverdam Township, Cherokee, North Carolina, United States in 1940 with her husband and children.[5]

She died on 8 February 2006, in Maryville, Blount, Tennessee, United States, at the age of 90,[6] and was biried in New Providence Cemetery, Tellico Plains, Monroe, Tennessee, United States.[7]

BURGESS, ALICE MARIE ATKINS - age 90 widow of Lex W. Burgess of Tellico Plains, answered Jesus' call on Wednesday, February 8, 2006. She was born December 15, 1915 the daughter of the late Reverend Joseph and Sally Roberts Atkins. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who loved playing the piano and singing. Member of Mt. Harmony Baptist Church. Former teacher's aide and teacher for the Monroe County School System. She was also preceded in death by daughter Betty Burgess, grandson Carl Burgess, great-grandson William Jude Burgess, brother, Kinley Atkins. Survivors: children and spouses, Bill and Carolyn Burgess, Vonore, Larry and Linda Burgess, Cherry Log, GA, Carol Burgess, Maryville grandchildren and spouses, Kim Alexander, Angie and Mark Hall, Steve and Michelle Burgess, all of Fayetteville, GA, Teresa Burgess, Mike and Janice Burgess, all of Vonore, Lisa and Alan Bradford, Alicia Burgess, all of Knoxville great-grandchildren, Danielle, Caleb, Abby and Anna Alexander, Jared and Sarah Hall, Kimberly, Austin and Joseph Bradford, Jennifer, Mikayla and Micah Burgess sister, Anna Lee Jones, Tellico Plains brothers and spouses, Joseph Eugene and Betty Atkins, Alcoa, Tom and Ann Atkins, Etowah sister-in-law, Marilyn Atkins- Tellico Plains. Funeral 7:00 p.m. Saturday, Biereley-Hale Chapel, Rev. James Atkins officiating. Interment 2:00 p.m. Sunday, New Providence Cemetery. Family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Saturday at Biereley-Hale Funeral Home, Tellico Plains.
