Biography

The Birth Date is a rough estimate. See the text for details.

Elijah was born about 1768, based on his year of marriage.

That he is associated with Parker is suggested by Elijah's marriage bond where Millington also posts bond with Elijah which may suggest a close family relationship. He could be a brother but just as easily could be a close cousin.[1]

On February 29th, 1790 he married Nancy Hunter, daughter of Robert Hunter with Milliton Adkins as surety.[2]

It is unknown when Elijah died.

Research Notes

This profile previously suggested that Elijah passed away about 1840 and the sources cited a 1830 US Census from Anderson, Tennessee. That census could not possibly be for this Elijah since the oldest male in the household is only 30-40 years old placing a birthdate between 1790-1800.[3]

What is the source for the Native American spouse attached, please? The comment below cites a work for only one wife. Thanks.

I had only seen one wife ever mentioned which was a combination of the two wives now shown. Elijah married Nancy Hunter who was also referred to as "Big Nancy" and oral family tradition has her as Native American and called "White Wing". They are supposedly the same person. But of course, no paper trail. Because Elijah is not shown as a son to Parker in Ronnie Adkins book, he has no mention of "Big Nancy".

I have found the marriage bond and can confirm that Nancy's father is shown as Robert on the marriage bond. The only connection I have found to any relation of Parker comes on the marriage bond where Millington also posts bond with Elijah which may suggest a close family relationship. He could be a brother but just as easily could be a close cousin. Hard to tell and since Parker has no will to list his children it's hard to say what their relationship is.

Geni has mentioned issues with dating (https://www.geni.com/people/Wabeleganequa-of-the-Shawnee/6000000032917491848).

Just quickly following Nancy's paperwork trail, there does not appear to me to be any reason to suggest she has any Native American ties, at least not from the males in the line. If there is any at all it would have to come from maternal sources. Her mother's line seems to be a big question on here and on Ancestry.

Thanks so much, Pattie. I've marked the parents uncertain and will propose a merge of the two wives into nancy hunter. Could you please add the marriage Honda's a source?

I found the actual marriage record over on Family Search in a not yet transcribed record. I've updated the sourcing.
