William Atkinson died in The Great Sheffield Flood on 12 Mar 1864

William was born about 1822. He is the son of John Atkinson and his wife Mary Eastwood. He was christened on 30 Jun 1822 in St John the Baptist, Penistone, Yorkshire, England.[1]

William was killed in 1864 during The Great Sheffield Flood when Dale Dyke Dam failed. A number of other families living near him in the 1861 census also lost their lives, including Isaac and Selina Turner and their children, and William’s brother James Atkinson.[2]

William’s oldest brother John was awarded £250 in compensation for William’s estate[3]
