Biography

In the Holland township, Grey North, Ontario, Canada census, "Morley" is recorded at the age of three months with his parents James 33 (occupation farmer) and Electa, 30, his older sister Myrtle, 2 and lodger, his uncle Thomas Atkinson, 24 (occupation illegible).

In the 1911 census for the same area Morley was 10 years old, living with his parents James (occupation farmer) 43 and Electa 21, Myrtle 12 and Harland 8. They were recorded as an Anglican family. It was noted that all of the family could read and write and that the children were in school nine months.

Morley attended continuation school in Grey county.

In 1921 the family was living at the new farm in Melancthon township, Dufferin County, Ontario, recorded in the census as James 54, Electa 51, Myrtle 22, Morley 20 and Harland 18. They were recorded as Anglicans. This farm had been purchased from John Atkinson (not related) on March 7 1921.

He spent some winters in logging camps and worked on the Great Lakes boats. He worked on the Noronica, the boat that years later burned in the Toronto harbour.

He was too young to serve in World War I, however his father sent the family team of workhorses to the war.

Morley was in his late 30's and working in the essential occupation of farming during World War II.

On March 7 1940 the farm was transferred into Morley's name, about six weeks after the death of his father James Atkinson.

On Mar 30 1933 Morley married Alma Renia Wilkinson in the Honeywood United Church officiated by Reverend J F Morris. The witnesses were his brother Victor Harland Atkinson of 73 Fulton Ave, Toronto and her sister Viola May "Mamie" Wilkinson of Honeywood. Morley's occupation was listed as farmer. The affidavit as required by Section 23 of The Marriage Act was signed by Morley in Shelburne that same day. Their four parents, James and Electa (Shaw) Atkinson, the late William Wilkinson and Harriet Ida (Tupling) Wilkinson are named on the affidavit. They spent their entire married lives on the farm a mile west of Redickville, Ontario.

He is buried in Shelburne cemetery with his wife Alma.
