George was born in 1921. He passed away in 1976. George was the second of five children [siblings John, Evelyn, Doris and Vincent]. He attended St. Chad's RC school in Witton Park, County Durham until he was 14 years old. He left to become a grocer's delivery boy then at the outbreak of war in 1939 joined the Royal Navy . He served aboard the 'Acscania' on cross-Atlantic convoys, then as a Leading Seaman aboard HMS Nelson and saw service in both European and Pacific theatres. He was awarded the 1939-45 War medal, the Atlantic Star, the Indian Star and the Pacific Star.
After the war he was a signalman with British Railways and in the mid-1960s became a process worker at Bakelite plastics factory in Newton Aycliffe, where he worked until his death in 1976. He was a founder member of the Southerne Social Club and an active member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
He is buried beside his wife, Patricia [Quinn] at Newton Aycliffe.
