Harold married his first wife, Edith Vincent in 1901. Following her death in 1938, it appears he re-married, to Alice King, in 1939, just a year prior to his passing in 1940.
In 1939, Harold was working as a Railway Inspector. The following is a transcript of the record of his death, as it appears in Ancestry's WW2 Civilian Death register:
Harold Ernest Attwater, age 59 of 69 Hazelwick Road, Three Bridges, Worth. Husband of A.M. Attwater. 9 December 1940, on Southern Railway permanent way between Balcombe and Three Bridges.
Research Notes
We have researched whether Harold and Edith had children, and it is noted in the 1911 Census that they had none. By this time Edith was age 39, and it was unlikely that they had children after that. No relevant birth records could be located, but his exact date of birth was obtained from the 1939 English Register. Exact death date obtained from WW11 Civilian Death Register.
