William was born in Itchingfield, Horsham Sussex in 1833. (no birth or christening record seen - info taken from census and other records). He is the son of John Attwater and Catherine Charman.
Census info shows that William worked as a manager of a corn business for a time.
William married twice during his life. His first wife was Mercy Walder, who he married in 1861. They had 3 children together, but Mercy passed away at the young age of 28 in 1868, possibly from complications of childbirth, as their last child was born the same year. William remarried in 1872 to Emma Wickham, who had appeared with him in the 1871 Census, at which time she was working as a servant. William and Emma would have 5 children.
William passed away in Steyning Sussex in 1885 at about age 52.
