John was born on 6 Jul 1802 and baptised on 5 Jan 1803 in Salisbury, Wiltshire, England. He was the son of John Atwood and Tamar Twine.[1]
John, a bachelor married Elizabeth Poole, a spinster on 14 Jun 1832 at St Marylebone, Westminster, England.[2]

1841 England Census - Newington, Surrey. John age 35 resided with his wife Elizabeth age 41 and their sons Poole age 7, Edwin age 3 and John age 4 months.[3]
1851 England Census - 28 John St, Newington, Surrey. John age 49, seed warehouse man resided with his wife Elizabeth age 50 and their sons Edwin age 12, John age 10 and Frederick age 7.[4]
1861 England Census - 2 Victoria Place, Newington, Surrey. John age 58, a Seedsman resided with his wife Elizabeth age 60 and their son Frederick age 17 a general clerk.
John passed away in 29 Dec 1862 and was buried on 5 Jan at Nunhead Cemetery, Linden Grove, Southwark, England.[5]
His probate of 13 Jan 1863 cites that his wife and beneficiary is Elizabeth Attwood of 2 Victoria Place.[6]
