Biography

William Atwater was born or baptized Dec. 4, 1786 [1]in Cheshire, Connecticut, son of Rufus Atwater and Esther / Mary Tuttle.. [2] He may have been born 28 Nov 1785 and baptized in Dec 1786. No primary sources have been found.

When his father Rufus was given land in Nova Scotia, the family moved there. His father, Rufus, died shortly after. His mother, Mary, remarried to Elisha Randall. [2]

William grew up in Nova Scotia and married 1st Mary 'Elizabeth' / Ellen Elliott about 1812 in Nova Scotia. She was born 1786, died Sep 16 1817 and is buried in Guysborough, Nova Scotia, Canada. [2]

William and Mary Elizabeth / Ellen had 2 children. [2]

William married 2nd Catherine Babson Apr 21 1821 in Newburyport, Massachusetts. [3][4] Her parents were Joseph Babson and Ruth Herrick.[5]

William and Catherine lived in Manchester, Nova Scotia, but finally removed to Newburyport, Massachusetts. [2]

Atwater-5 and Atwater-741 appear to represent the same person because: No sources on Atwater-741, Sources have been added to Atwater-5. Since parents died in Nova Scotia, 1st wife may have been in Nova Scotia before he moved to Massachusetts and married again and had children.

Both profiles mentioned same parents, so they are the same person. Birth date is not sourced. Sources have not been found, after reviewing Connecticut sources and family search. Both dates should be entered as possible dates in merged profile, one may be birth and the other is baptism date.
