William Atwater was born or baptized Dec. 4, 1786 [1]in Cheshire, Connecticut, son of Rufus Atwater and Esther / Mary Tuttle.. [2] He may have been born 28 Nov 1785 and baptized in Dec 1786. No primary sources have been found.
When his father Rufus was given land in Nova Scotia, the family moved there. His father, Rufus, died shortly after. His mother, Mary, remarried to Elisha Randall. [2]
William grew up in Nova Scotia and married 1st Mary 'Elizabeth' / Ellen Elliott about 1812 in Nova Scotia. She was born 1786, died Sep 16 1817 and is buried in Guysborough, Nova Scotia, Canada. [2]
