At the age of 16 he had the chance to meet and converse with Abraham Lincoln who was campaigning for the US Senator. He married, started a family and moved west by wagon train in 1880 to Nebraska where he heard it was easier for a poor man to get a start. In addition to farming, he was active in community affairs. a devoutly religious man.
He married Ellen C White on September 10th 1868 in Mason Illlinois.[1]
