From Historical Southern Families at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~celticlady/thornton/Boddie-Thorntons.htm: Samuel Atwell was probably the youngest child of John and Elizabeth Atwell, born about 1710/11, as he was under the guardianship of his brother Youell in 1725, but was acting for himself Jan. 26, 1731/2, when he sued William Rice, who had married Youell's widow. He married about l736 Martha (Howell) Davis, widow of William Davis, and daughter of John Howell and his wife, Martha, daughter of Vincent Cox, Sr. It is uncertain whether Samuel Atwell left issue.

There was a Samuel [possibly middle name Sample] Atwell, who left a will in 1757 in Talbot Co MD.
