According to Ye Atte Wood Annals and the Truro Massachusetts, he married Mary Knowles on 27 November 1746 in Truro, Massachusetts.[3]
He lived in Nova Scotia. A Joshua Atwood appears in Barrington in the 1770 census.[1][4]
Birth
Massachusetts Town and Vital Records 1620-1988.
Research Notes
Atte Wood annals does not mention wife Mercy Nickerson.
The Nickerson Family documentation is copyrighted 1973 and may only be available to members of the family association; assumption is that documentation of that marriage is available in that record. The NIckerson Family, part 1, 1973, p.58 Does say she married Joshua Atwood and resided Barrington but no indication it is this Joshua; part 3, p. 406 says only "828. Rhoda Nickerson m. Barrington Dec 1784 to Knowles Atwood, probably born at Eastham, MA; son of Joshua and Mary (Knowles) Atwood."
The FindAGrave memorial for Joshua refers to a memorial for wife Mary Knowles, but there is no memorial for Mercy Nickerson.
Page 22 of Nova Scotia Immigrants to 1867, Vol. I lists Joshua Atwood (son of Joseph, born in Truro on October 1722) and Mary Atwood (born 20 January 1726/7, daughter of Paul Knowles), immigrated to Barrington, Nova Scotia, in 1760. Image.
Mercy Nickerson had married Herman Kenney. They also migrated to Barrington. Both Herman Kenney and Mary Knowles Atwood died in 1775. The idea that Joshua and Mercy married is plausible.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Joshua by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Joshua:
My family records compiled by Abner Walker had a note regarding Joshua and it’s not verifiable but fwiw, Joshua was a Loyalist who took his wife Mary and removed from Massachusetts in about 1755. US and Canada Passenger Lists State 1760
A findagrave states died 1833 at age 111. Not impossible but unlikely.
My info said Sept 27 1722. The 8 and 9 can be hard to determine in sloppy long hand at times or some records have the later christening date as the birth day. I will try to find it.

I agree that 1833 us pretty unlikely. Nova Scotia does have some records from back then on Ancestry, but I don't have access to them right now.
