Biography

Chloe Atwood was born 3 September 1830 in New York State, United States, daughter of Lorenzo and Amanda (Payne) Atwood. According to her death records, her father was born in Shoraham, Virginia.

She married Jonathan Warren Orms.

13 July 1860--John and Chloe lived on a farm in Chazy, Clinton, New York with their children, Alice--6 and Henry--3 mos. They are listed next to Francis Atwood (Chloe's Brother?) and his wife Mary. They are 24 and 21, respectively and had a daughter, Carrie, age 1. A 3 mo. old "Millison Allen" is also in their household.

1 June 1880, at 49, Chloe and sons, Bert and Frank, were in the household of her husband, Jonathan, who was the keeper of the Poor Farm in Dayton, Chickasaw Co., Iowa.

1 January 1885 Iowa State Census--At the age of 53, Chloe lived with her husband and two sons in New Hampton, Chickasaw Co., Iowa.

12 June 1900--Chloe and J.W. still lived in the same place. Chloe's sister, Mercy Atwood, a 52 year-old,single, dressmaker b. July 1847 in NY also lived in their household. (Chloe had given birth to 5 children/3 still living. She and Jonathan had been married 50 years.)

She was widowed upon her husband's death 21 November 1907 at the age of 84.
