Biography

According to these sources, Joseph Wood's family in Taunton was later called Atwood.

Joseph Wood, son of Henry Wood, was born on 23 July 1653 in Plymouth, Plymouth Colony (now: Taunton, Bristol County, Massachusetts, United States).

On 1 January 1679 Joseph Wood married Hester or Esther Walker, the daughter of James Walker and Elizabeth Philips of Tauton, Mass. ^{[1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6]}

Their children included:

1. Joseph, born 4 August 1681^[4], who married Mary Reed in 1702 ^{[5] [7]}
2. John, born February 28, 1683^[4], whose second wife was Hannah, daughter of Peter Walker^[5]
3. Ephraim, born about 1689, who married Ruth Richmond, daughter of Sylvester^{[5] [8]}
4. Joanna, who married William Nichols^[5]

Hester died 8 April 1696^{[5] [2]}, and Joseph remarried Abigail Paul, the daughter of William Paul and Mary Richmond of Taunton on 18 October 1696 ^{[9] [10] [6]}

Joseph and Abigail had a son together:

1. Abiel Atwood.

Joseph died the February after their marriage, on 12 February 1696/97, and Abigail remarried John Burt. ^[10] Joseph was buried at Walker-Blake Graveyard, Taunton, Bristol County, Massachusetts. His gravestone inscription reads:

HERE LIES YE BODY OF JOSEPH ATWOOD AGED 47 DIED IN THE YEAR 1696/7 FEB. 12TH ^[11]
