On Monday last Pirongia was all excitement, the occasion being the wedding of Mr Eugene Aubin, Captain of the No. 2 Troop Waikato Mounted Rifles, and Miss Christina Allan Steel, eldest daughter of Mr "Jock" Steele, of Kaniwaniwha. The ceremony was conducted by the Rev. F. Latter, at the residence of the bride's grandmother, Mrs J. Allan.[1]

Telephone information at mid-day to-day from Kawhia announces the death of Mr Eugene Aubin, a resident there for the past twenty years or so, and formerly of Pirongia. Deceased, who was a member of one of the oldest families at Pirongia, was a noted athlete in his youth, and was much esteemed. He was a brother of Mrs W. H. Bell and Miss R. Aubin, of Pirongia, and of Dr Aubin, of Auckland.[2]
