Note N30In a letter written in 1978 by Lavalle "Val", she said that her grandmother, Sophia Aubry Slater would visit Aunt Mary Furthmiller on Sunday afternoon and Mary's mother Amelia Esten Aubry would be sitting in an armless rocking chair. Val's grandmother would call her grandma. This would have actually been her step-grandmother, as her biological grandmother would have already been dead. On January 8, 1902, in the divorce case of Mrs. Mary S. Slater vs. Isaac M. Slater, Judge Aiken granted a divorce and 00 alimony to the wife. The testimony was very sensational. The Fort Wayne Daily News, Monday, March 19, 1917, page 11. Mr. and Mrs. William Furthmiller entertained recently, Mr. and Mrs. L. Slater and children and Mrs. Sophia Slater and Vivian Batson, of Fort Wayne. NEED to check out this story below: Dorothy Furthmiller LaFontaine said that lived in Brooklyn for while. She had two sons. Who is Matzarella? Dorothy may have said was husband, so this may be another Sophie. Sophie brought sailor hats to Joe and Tom LaFontaine when they were about 5 years old. Sophie came back to Indiana to stay on the north side of town with someone who was sick. This was someone in North Highlands, by Lakeside Park. Dorothy visited her a couple of times, but doesn't remember who this was. Sophie also sayed with Aunt Millie in Springfield for a while. Sloan & Sons funeral home, where friends may call at 7 p.m. today. funeral services will be at the funeral home at 2 p. m. Monday, Rev. Paul H. Krauss officiating.
