Biography

THE SPRINGFIELD SUN, page 1, Thursday, Nov. 30, 1933. JAMES AUBERRY TAKEN BY DEATH. Veteran of Spanish-American War and Prominently Known Citizen Of County Died Tuesday At Fredericktown.

Funeral services were held at nine o'clock Wednesday morning at Holy Trinity Church at Fredericktown for mr. James Auberry, interment following in St. Rose Cemetery besdide the bodies of other members of his family who lie buried there.

Mr. Auberry died at seven o'clock Tuesday morning at the home of Mr. and mrs. D. L. Clark at Fredericktown, with whom he had been making his home , his death attributed to appoplexy, with which he was stricken suddenly Monday afternoon. Prior to his fatal stroke he had been in his usual health, no thought of death having been entertained.

Mr. Auberry was born and raised in the Fredsericktown section of this county. In young manhood he enlisted in the U. S. Army and saw service during the Spanish-American War and in the Phillipine insurrection. After being honorably discharged from service, he went West and spent many years. Six years ago he returned to this county to reside. He was never married.

Surviving Mr. Auberry are two sisters, Mrs. John Corbett of this county, and Mrs. Mary Shircliffe, Botland, and four brothers, Vernon, Hugh, J. E. and William Auberry and a half-sister , Mrs. F. F. Mudd, Fredericktown.

Mr. Auberry was accorded full military rites. Major John A. Polin being in charge of the firing squad.
