Paolo was born about 1808 ^[1] to Gaspare Augello and Caterina Cicio ^[2]. In 1838 at age 30, he married 24-year-old Liboria Scaturro ^[3] and they had several children.

Per his marriage record, Paolo was a 'villico', a peasant farmer who did not own land.
