Sir Nicholas de Audley, 1st Lord Audley was born on 11 November 1289 [2] (alternate year 1292) [citation needed] at of Heleigh in Audley, Audley, Betley, Chesterton, & Tunstall, Staffordshire, England.[1] He married Johanna Martin, daughter of Sir William Martin, 1st Lord Martin, Justice of West & South Wales and Eleanor FitzReynold, circa 6 June 1313; They had 1 son (Sir James, 2nd Lord Audley) and 1 daughter (Alice, wife of Ralph Basset, & of Sir Hugh de Meynell).[2] Sir Nicholas de Audley, 1st Lord Audley died on 28 November 1316 at of Red Castle in Weston, Edgmond, Ford, & Marchamley, Shropshire, England, at age 24.[2] His heir was his son James.[3]

Grant to Hugh le Despenser, for the benefit of his daughter, of the marriage of Nicholas, brother and heir of Thomas de Audley son and heir of Nicholas de Audley, deceased, tenant in chief, whose marriage does not belong to him under the late king's grant, for the like purpose, of the marriage of the above-named Thomas de Audley, who since the king's accession died a minor and unmarried.

Shropshire - Red Castle with its members, held jointly by the said Nicholas and Joan his wife, countess of Lincoln, of John de Harcourt to them and the heirs of the body of the said Nicholas.
