Biography

Dr. Leslie Audrain was born in 1878. He was the son of Pierre Manar Audrain and Mary Dryden. He had a full life. He became a medical doctor traveling from Missouri to Chicago to Colorado and finally practicing in Los Angeles. Early in his career, in 1910, he married a young lady named Matilda Svoboda. Matilda was born in Nebraska to a couple who migrated to the United States from what is now called the Czech Republic. Dr. Audrain's father was Pierre Audrain from Montgomery County, Mo. His family, going back to pre-Revolutionary War, came to America from France and his mother Mary Dryden, was a member of one of the earliest families of Missouri, Virginia and Maryland. His great grandfather Capt. Nathaniel Dryden fought against the English in the War of 1812. Great Great Grandfather, David Dryden of Augusta, VA supplied food and goods to the Virginia Militia in the Revolutionary War. And his 2nd great uncle was killed at the Battle at Kings Mountain during the Rev. War. The Drydens came to the new world in 1670-80 to be able to freely worship in the new world as the English were fighting against those that wanted to freely worship in their native Scotland.

Dr. Audrain and his wife did not have children but when they gathered with both familys, there were surely enough children to enjoy. In his own family, his mother and father had seven children and his aunts and uncles, on both sides of his parents families, all had large families.

In May of 1949, after a successful career he passed away at the age of 71. He is buried at Forest Lawn Cementary in Glendale, CA. His wife Matilda lived another 30 years and didn't die until 1979. She is buried next to her husband at Forest Lawn.
